A global media and technology company with 18 authorized app publishers lacked visibility and control over the mobile apps its business units and third-party publishers were putting on iTunes and the Playstore. The dispersed publishing model meant the company underestimated its app footprint and could not enforce corporate security and privacy policies, leaving many apps with risky behaviors and vulnerabilities that threatened data and brand safety.
Working with Veracode, the company deployed a cloud-based perimeter monitoring solution that scanned app stores, applied behavioral analysis against company policies, and ran binary static analysis on Android apps. The program discovered more than 200 Android apps (about 100% more than expected), audited 155 iOS apps, identified policy violations and vulnerabilities, and enabled the company to enforce its app policies, tighten control of its mobile footprint, and reduce mobile application risk.
