Water P3 Streamlines Processes in Buffalo

The City of Buffalo faced the twin challenge of preserving the historic Colonel F.G. Ward Pumping Station and reliably supplying high‑quality, affordable water to more than 270,000 residents from a 160‑MGD treatment plant and 785 miles of distribution piping. To meet that goal, the Buffalo Water Board in 2010 partnered with Veolia North America to manage, maintain and improve the city’s water system.

Under the ten‑year agreement Veolia North America implemented streamlined operations and new technologies — including enhanced customer service and Call Center operations, residuals processing and removal, asset management and maintenance programs, and new metering initiatives — and supported upgrades such as state‑of‑the‑art pumps installed in 2013. Those efforts helped sustain delivery of over 20 billion gallons annually, preserve system performance and water quality for residents, and improve operational responsiveness and asset reliability across Buffalo’s water system.
