Waste Remediation and Reduction in Port Arthur

Texas Major Chemical Plant faced a failing 120' x 120' x 16' drainage pit with 18-year-old plastic/Kevlar liners that were leaking hazardous ethylene-process wastewater into the ground, creating a significant safety and environmental risk. Veolia North America was engaged to drain, remediate, and remove the compromised liners while minimizing wastewater generation and disposal costs, employing a centrifuge recirculation system and specialized liner removal and replacement services.

Veolia North America deployed a centrifuge with a recirculation tank and high‑volume pump to reuse cleaning water, process the pit waste on-site, wash and remove the degraded liners, and install an advanced spray‑in liner with a >30‑year life expectancy. The solution cut frac tank needs from about 30 to 3, greatly reduced wastewater and solid disposal volumes, avoided off‑site disposal for the cleaning tank, recovered and safely treated the hazardous material, and delivered over $500,000 in disposal savings.
