A Veolia North America Case Study
Tampa Bay Water, a regional water authority and Florida’s largest wholesale supplier, needed a new sustainable water supply from a site adjacent to sensitive wetlands with highly variable flows and raw water quality. Veolia North America was engaged to deliver the design‑build‑operate project, deploying its ACTIFLO® treatment process and a detailed monitoring program to meet regulatory requirements and ensure cost‑effective, environmentally protective withdrawals.
Veolia North America assembled specialized operations, design and construction teams with local and national partners, implemented ACTIFLO®, hydrobiological monitoring and a reservoir management plan, and assumed O&M for the S.K. Keller 30‑MGD hydrogen sulfide plant and a 15‑billion‑gallon raw water reservoir. The project saved about $80 million on phase one, prompted approval to expand to a 120‑MGD DBO (the nation’s largest), earned multiple industry awards including the 2012 Plant Operations Excellence Award, and improved raw water quality and environmental protections.
