The Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans faced significant challenges in managing one of the largest wastewater treatment operations in the United States, including regulatory compliance issues and the devastating impact of hurricanes. They partnered with Veolia North America for a comprehensive operations and maintenance contract to address these difficulties and improve the resilience of their facilities.

Veolia implemented innovative solutions, including a major capital improvements program and process modifications to restore permit compliance. Following hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Veolia mobilized vast resources to restore the plants, managing all FEMA interface and completing $47 million in recovery programs. The results included an estimated $15 million in O&M savings over the first decade, the successful completion of a $6 million capital program, and numerous awards for environmental compliance and public-private partnership excellence.
