Major Electric Power Plant - Customer Case Study

Major Electric Power Plant in Oregon faced airborne and surface mercury concentrations above clearance levels and needed to remediate building and equipment surfaces and ambient vapor while the facility remained fully operational. The plant engaged Veolia North America, deploying its hazardous materials and industrial cleaning groups to provide specialized mercury abatement and recovery services under a tight, safety‑critical schedule.

Veolia North America implemented a managed abatement program using crews from five locations, strict containment and decontamination protocols, and full project deliverables (Site Health & Safety Plan, QAPP, contingency and assessment reports). Post‑abatement sampling verified successful decontamination, crews worked over 10,000 hours without a safety incident, waste was properly characterized and segregated for compliant disposal, and the client expanded scope with six change orders—completing additional planned work during the first phase while keeping the plant operational.
