Case Study: Atlanta-Fulton County achieves $9.5M+ in consumer savings and award-winning water operations with Veolia North America

A Veolia North America Case Study

Preview of the Atlanta-Fulton County Case Study

Long-standing partnership yields cost savings, numerous honors

Atlanta-Fulton County engaged Veolia North America for long-term operation and maintenance (O&M) of the 90‑MGD Atlanta‑Fulton County Water Treatment Plant, a surface water filtration facility serving about 370,000 residents. The challenge was to reliably run and expand a state‑of‑the‑art plant while controlling energy and chemical costs, maintaining regulatory compliance and security, and supporting minority- and women‑owned business participation.

Veolia North America, operating in a 50‑50 joint venture, delivered process and capital improvements that tripled plant capacity, established mentor‑protégé relationships with MBE/WBE partners, and completed a Security Vulnerability Assessment; its O&M program cut power, chemical and overall operations costs and passed 100% of savings to the Atlanta‑Fulton County Water Resources Commission. The facility has earned more than 50 awards (including nine Platinum Safe Drinking Water Act awards) and has produced over $9.5 million in accumulated water‑rate savings for consumers.
