Large Steel Company engaged Veolia North America to address a quality and sustainability challenge: the mill needed recycled solvents that would meet very strict production specifications. Veolia North America provided a turnkey solvent recycling service through its Chemrec division, aiming to regenerate used solvents for safe, repeatable reuse in the plant’s processes.

Veolia North America’s Chemrec team used a state-of-the-art distillation/regeneration process and ran extensive in-house and independent laboratory testing over about a year to validate the recycled solvents (including acetone) met the mill’s standards. The solution regenerates approximately 70% of the plant’s used solvents, simplified solvent management, reduced disposal costs and environmental impact, and allowed the Large Steel Company to routinely reuse recycled solvents without quality issues.
