Case Study: Henry Ford Health System achieves a 68% lower carbon footprint and 75% heat from waste heat recovery with Veolia North America

A Veolia North America Case Study

Preview of the Henry Ford Health System Case Study

How Henry Ford Health will be able to lower its carbon footprint by 68%

Henry Ford Health System is electrifying its century-old Detroit hospital campus to reduce carbon emissions and modernize energy use while ensuring reliable service for patients at the expanded 877-bed facility. To meet this challenge, Veolia North America (working with Kiewit) is providing a turnkey Central Energy Hub solution and Veolia’s Hubgrade digital energy management platform to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the new system.

Veolia North America’s Central Energy Hub combines electrified boilers, waste heat recovery (to supply 75% of heating), renewable power purchase agreements, and Hubgrade monitoring to optimize consumption and reduce emissions. The project is projected to cut the campus carbon footprint by 68%, deliver 75% of heat from waste heat recovery, and enable low‑carbon operation from day one when paired with renewable PPAs.
