Hickory Meadows landfill - Customer Case Study

Hickory Meadows landfill in Hilbert, WI engaged Veolia North America to capture and convert landfill gas into renewable electricity, addressing regulatory and market needs including Wisconsin’s Renewable Portfolio Standard. Veolia North America designed, built, and now owns, operates and maintains a landfill gas-to-energy plant that began commercial operations in August 2011 and is operated remotely from Grand Rapids, MI.

Veolia North America installed a 4.8 MW facility made up of three 1.6 MW reciprocating engine sets, producing enough power for about 2,800 homes with output purchased by Wisconsin Public Service to help meet the RPS. The project reduces carbon dioxide emissions by more than 25,000 tons a year—equivalent to removing roughly 37,550 cars from the road—delivering clear environmental and energy-value results.
