A Veolia North America Case Study
New York State sought to meet its “45 by 15” goals — cutting electricity use by 15% and increasing renewable generation by 30% by 2015 — across high‑profile sites such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY Public Library and the Bronx Zoo. To achieve this, the state engaged Veolia North America; Veolia’s energy consulting group, SourceOne, was selected to conduct operational audits and energy‑efficiency studies across more than 20 facilities in NYC and Westchester.
SourceOne identified and bid a range of retrofit measures — steam repairs, chiller replacements, air‑handler commissioning, metering and lighting upgrades, plus cooling towers and steam distribution improvements at sites like Grand Central Terminal. Under Veolia North America, these programs expanded to projects at more than 3,900 facilities statewide, generating about $6 million in annual savings, $60 million in energy conservation measures across 21 project sites and avoiding the equivalent of 2.5 million barrels of oil per year.
