A Veolia North America Case Study
The City of Buffalo faced the challenge of operating and maintaining its aging water supply system, which included a water treatment facility from 1926 and a vast network of pre-1935 infrastructure susceptible to extreme weather. The city entered a 10-year public-private partnership with Veolia North America for the operation and maintenance (O&M) of this system, aiming to streamline processes and enhance services without overburdening ratepayers.
Veolia North America implemented innovative solutions including a Process Control Management Plan, remote monitoring automation, and an Underground Asset Management platform. These efforts resulted in improved inventory management, enhanced customer service, and the successful generation of an onsite fuel source. Key achievements included completing the first contract year without a lost-time incident and receiving the Diamond Pin Award from the American Water Works Association, all while delivering 20 billion gallons of high-quality water annually.
