Augmented Reality for Municipal Water in Veolia North America

The City of Hollister, CA operates an Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant and a Water Reclamation Facility and has been managed by Veolia North America under a long-term contract. When the COVID-19 pandemic imposed travel restrictions, Veolia faced the challenge of completing a required condition assessment—using specialized vibration, ultrasound and thermal tools—while onsite staff were not familiar with those instruments and external support could not travel.

Veolia North America deployed its Hubgrade Assist augmented reality (AR) solution (Veolia Water Technologies recommended the AR tool supplied by Fieldbit) to remotely guide site staff in collecting vibration, ultrasound and thermal imaging data and performing visual inspections. The remote AR approach enabled real-time collaboration, quick identification of assets needing immediate maintenance, and development of a data-justified 5-year capital plan, while delivering measurable benefits: reduced COVID exposure for five people and saved travel time and costs for one person.
