A Veolia North America Case Study
Veolia North America partnered with the Allen County Department of Environmental Management, which was facing the challenge of overwhelming public demand for its annual Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection event. The existing one-day program was insufficient, causing long wait times for over 1,000 households and processing over 42,000 pounds of material in a single day, necessitating a more convenient and consistent disposal service for the county's 370,400 residents.
The solution implemented by Veolia was the creation of a permanent, weekly collection program called Tox Away Tuesdays. Veolia's representative provided crucial technical expertise for site setup, material segregation, and staff training, enabling the small county team to safely manage the new operation. As a result, the program collected over 16 tons of material in its first three months, significantly increasing accessibility and receiving overwhelming positive feedback from an engaged and thankful public.
