How the Kansas State University’s Technology Development Institute (TDI) created a rapid prototyping test bed for the manufacturing industry

Kansas State University's Technology Development Institute (TDI) faced the challenge of needing a flexible and rapid way to test automation solutions for its diverse industrial clients. Traditional custom-built options were time-consuming and costly. TDI sought an out-of-the-box, plug-and-play cobot cell to create an adaptable test bed for prototyping and to help address client labor shortages.

Vention provided a pre-assembled automation cell featuring a UR20 cobot and MachineMotion controller, which was easily configured using their online platform. The solution arrived ready to deploy, eliminating integration challenges. This allowed TDI to quickly validate ideas for clients and even successfully solved a specific problem involving delicate heater chip decoupling. The Vention implementation accelerated prototyping, advanced the university's cobot practice, and effectively showcased robotics benefits to clients and students.
