How Harris RCS Leveraged a Mobile Cobot Machine-Tending Cell to Automate High-Mix, Low Volume Production

Harris RCS, a leading aerospace supplier, needed a better way to handle low-volume, high-mix production with frequent changeovers and widely varying batch sizes. To address these challenges, they partnered with Vention to explore collaborative robotics and machine tending, seeking a flexible, modular solution that could improve performance while supporting operator upskilling.

Vention designed a mobile cobot machine-tending cell using its patented T-slot aluminum extrusion system, MachineBuilder™ software, and modular FastFactory™ hardware. The mobile setup can serve multiple machines and includes an automated drawer part presenter and safety enclosure; after deployment, Harris RCS reported the cobot consistently exceeded production targets by 28% and reduced scrap rates, while also improving safety and efficiency.
