Leveraging sub-tender procurement to drive local economic development

BuyRegional, a nationwide initiative powered by VendorPanel, was created to help government and enterprise organisations improve low-value, decentralized procurement while also supporting local and regional economic development. Its challenge was to bring transparency, governance, and better value to sourcing activity that was often handled by non-procurement staff and managed through informal email-based quote processes.

Using the VendorPanel Local Supplier Marketplace and geo-targeting, BuyRegional connected buyers with local suppliers and structured sub-tender procurement across a large competitive sourcing dataset. The results were strong: local vendors won 84.4% of cases, and an independently audited analysis found average cost avoidance of 9.74%, equal to more than $2.89 million in savings on $29.75 million of spend, while also improving compliance, probity, and reporting.
