Tallinn Airport launches a low-trace pop-up business lounge in 4 months with Velvet

Tallinn Airport needed to temporarily relocate its business lounge services to a pop-up space within the terminal while its original lounge was being renovated. The challenge was to create this temporary space without compromising on service or aesthetics, while also ensuring the build was sustainable and left little trace after its four-month use. The airport partnered with vendor Velvet to achieve this.

Velvet implemented a highly sustainable and circular design solution. They used single layers of recycled wool for walls that could later be remade into emergency blankets, repurposed mesh fabric for screens that would become tote bags, and rented or borrowed many key items like lighting and furniture. The result was a fully functional and aesthetically pleasing lounge that met all the airport's requirements. The project successfully demonstrated how to create a high-quality temporary space with a minimal environmental footprint, as nearly every material was designed for disassembly and a specific future use.
