NAEM Virtual Conference Highlights Cummins’ Success with Ergonomics

Cummins, a global technology leader with more than 62,000 employees and products in ~190 countries, faced a significant ergonomics challenge after discovering in 2013 that 28% of its injuries were musculoskeletal and 60% of those were medium-to-high risk. Leadership needed hard data to secure funding and drive sustained improvements across the enterprise.

Cummins partnered with VelocityEHS in 2014, rolling out software and training across hundreds of sites, standardizing risk assessments, prioritizing fixes with data-driven reports, and gaining executive buy-in. The program produced thousands of job assessments and improvements, helped reduce MSD incidence by 15% in 2019, lowered ergonomics recordables year-over-year, and cut the Ergonomics Incidence Rate from .154 (2017) to .127 (2019).
