Leading Art and Design School Migrates from Homespun SDS System to VelocityEHS

Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), a top-ranked art and design school with roughly 2,400 students and more than 50 campus buildings, struggled with a homegrown SDS intranet that was slow to update and hard to manage—an increasingly acute problem with global GHS alignment and a large, dispersed chemical inventory.

In 2013 RISD implemented VelocityEHS Chemical Management, gaining an always-updated SDS library, mobile/offline access, printable libraries for non-desk staff, and Plan1 first-responder sharing. The platform cut time spent maintaining SDSs, improved compliance and chemical oversight, and gave campus public safety officers instant access to building chemical inventories—enhancing emergency preparedness and overall safety.
