Innovations Reduce Incident Rates at the Timken Company

Timken, a global engineering and manufacturing firm founded in 1899 with roughly $3 billion in sales and 14,000 employees across 28 countries, set out to overhaul its ergonomics program to reduce workplace musculoskeletal risks. The company required each plant to assess all jobs using VelocityEHS’s Ergonomics Hit List and to cut ergonomics risk factors by 20% annually, with at least three documented innovative improvements per plant each year.

To meet those goals Timken rolled out VelocityEHS Industrial Ergonomics (starting in 2015) across 34 plants in 11 countries, using the online assessment and risk‑management tools to rank and target high‑priority jobs. The program helped quantify and reduce MSD risks, contributing to an all‑time low incident rate; this year they completed more than 200 assessments, have 142 improvements underway, and continue to meet their metrics while realizing cost savings and improved morale and quality.
