Goodyear Tire & Rubber’s Commitment to Ergonomics Training Shows Real Results

Goodyear Tire & Rubber, one of the world’s largest tiremakers, set out in 2007 to reduce work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and faced the ongoing challenge of sustaining an ergonomics program across 65 plants. The company needed a scalable way to train employees to identify high‑risk jobs, prioritize improvements, and secure management buy-in to reduce injuries and costs.

Goodyear partnered with VelocityEHS, running RAPID Team Events, using the RPM/Industrial Ergonomics system, and rolling out e‑learning plus hands‑on Ergonomics Sandbox workshops. The program trained teams to implement low‑cost, high‑impact fixes (averaging 2–3 per event), produced color‑coded risk reports for management, and drove measurable results: 6,900 jobs assessed, 1,500 improved (18% high, 44% medium, 38% low), more than 2,700 hourly workers trained since 2014, near‑100% employee engagement, and planned expansion to additional plants.
