Carhartt Reduced OSHA Recordables by over 50% through Ergonomics & Engagement

Carhartt, a US-based workwear manufacturer with over 3,000 associates and multiple sewing and finishing facilities, faced rising musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) risk from repetitive motions, poor posture, and high forces. Safety leaders Scott Harper and Ashley Arvin sought a scalable ergonomics program to educate staff, engage leadership and associates, and reduce OSHA recordable injuries, but had limited in-house ergonomics experience.

They implemented VelocityEHS Industrial Ergonomics—using built-in training, AI-driven assessments, on-site ergonomics committees, and video-based MSD evaluations—to prioritize high-risk tasks and implement low-cost fixes (e.g., motorized pallet jacks). The program drove rapid improvements: OSHA recordables dropped 50% at Irvine and 59% at Camden, Edmonton recorded 50 consecutive days without an OSHA recordable, and associate engagement, morale, and long-term ergonomics plans have strengthened across facilities.
