A VelocityEHS Case Study
Cardinal Health, a global healthcare services and products company headquartered in Dublin, Ohio, made ergonomics a priority in 2012 after finding that 50% of its recordable injuries were due to cumulative trauma and manual material handling. The company lacked ergonomics training, a standardized risk-evaluation method, and leading indicators for tracking progress, so a cross-functional steering committee was formed to reduce risk in the highest-risk jobs by 20%.
Cardinal Health partnered with Humantech (now VelocityEHS) in 2013 and rolled out online training, expert-led job improvement workshops, standardized assessments, and reporting tools (Scorecard and Risk Reduction Index) to monitor leading indicators and set targets. Since then they’ve trained 1,757 employees, completed over 4,630 assessments, implemented 2,390 solutions, avoided more than $1 million annually in workers’ compensation costs, and are expanding the program globally.
