A VelocityEHS Case Study
Piper Shores is a nonprofit retirement community on the coast of Southern Maine serving about 300 seniors with a 200-person staff and more than 450 on-site chemicals (75 used by housekeeping alone). The facility relied on five sets of paper SDS binders spread across departments, which made hazard-communication compliance time-consuming, error-prone, and difficult to keep up to date.
In 2009 Piper Shores implemented VelocityEHS Chemical Management, a cloud-based SDS and chemical management system that provides 24/7 access, mobile/offline capability, and automatic update checks. The solution replaced paper binders, saved staff time, improved facility-wide access (including during power outages), was incorporated into resident safety training, and reduced administrative burden while keeping the community better prepared for regulatory changes.
