Case Study: Hitachi Energy achieves a 95% reduction in neck and back injuries with VelocityEHS Industrial Ergonomics

A VelocityEHS Case Study

Preview of the Hitachi Case Study

Hitachi’s incidence of neck and back injuries plummeted by 95% – as did costs to the company

Hitachi Energy’s Jefferson City manufacturing plant struggled to scale ergonomics and safety efforts with a small health-and-safety team and limited specialist time, leaving many risk-reduction opportunities unaddressed. The site needed a way to prioritize ergonomic hazards and deploy practical fixes without heavy investments of time or money.

After adopting VelocityEHS Industrial Ergonomics in 2023 and forming a cross‑functional committee, the team used data to target high‑impact changes—such as converting a manual hole punch to a $1,000 hydraulic tool and redesigning operator lifts. Those small fixes drove a nearly 95% drop in shoulder and lower‑back injuries, sharply reduced related costs, and prompted rollout of the solution and practices to other North American sites with plans for global expansion.
