What does it take to grow a sustainable and equitable heat pump market

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) faced the challenge of meeting ambitious greenhouse gas reduction targets by transforming the state's HVAC and water heating markets. They needed scalable and equitable strategies to make heat pumps the default choice, requiring a full-scale market transformation. To address this, the CPUC worked with vendor VEIC and its program solutions and pilot capabilities.

VEIC joined the TECH Clean California initiative to design and implement a comprehensive market transformation strategy. This involved administering six regional pilot programs and a Quick Start Grant program to overcome barriers to heat pump adoption. In its first year, the program installed over 10,000 heat pump systems, distributed more than $2 million in grants, and is predicted to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 3,359 metric tons. VEIC's work is helping to ensure the long-term viability of California's heat pump market.
