A VEIC Case Study
VEIC worked with TECH Clean California to address the challenge of scaling heat pump adoption equitably. While large-scale incentive programs existed, they often failed to overcome local barriers, such as high upfront costs for low-income homeowners and complex installations for renters, leaving underserved communities behind.
To solve this, VEIC administered the Quick Start Grant program, providing flexible funding for local, innovative projects. This approach enabled community-driven solutions, from developing plug-and-play heat pump systems to integrating installations into existing housing programs. As a result, the initiative led to over 500 heat pump installations benefiting 922 households, with 83% of funds directed to equity-focused projects, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 142 metric tons annually.
