A VEIC Case Study
The State of Vermont faced significant barriers to electric vehicle (EV) adoption, including consumer awareness, limited charging infrastructure, and upfront costs, especially in rural and lower-income areas. To address this challenge, the state partnered with vendor VEIC to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation.
VEIC implemented the Drive Electric Vermont program, a public-private partnership that served as a central hub for strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and consumer education. The solution included deploying charging stations, creating financial incentives, and conducting outreach. As a result of VEIC's work, EV registrations in Vermont grew from 120 in 2012 to over 3,700 by 2020, while charging stations increased from 17 to more than 230, establishing Vermont as a national leader in cold-climate EV adoption.
