Case Study: Martha’s Vineyard Transit Authority achieves cleaner, more reliable electric transit with VEIC

A VEIC Case Study

Martha’s Vineyard Transit Authority cuts 36,000 tons of CO2 with VEIC

The Martha’s Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) sought to build a more reliable and cleaner electric bus fleet without compromising service for its island community. The challenges included ensuring operational reliability during power outages and managing the costs of electrification. VEIC worked with the VTA to address these hurdles through careful infrastructure planning.

VEIC implemented a solution centered on a single-customer microgrid with solar generation and battery storage. This ensured a self-sufficient power supply for charging, addressing reliability concerns and avoiding high demand charges. The results were significant; in 2020, 300,000 miles were driven electrically. VEIC's project laid the foundation for a resilient system that is projected to reduce CO2 emissions by 36,000 tons over ten years and save $4 million in operational costs.
