Case Study: District of Columbia Sustainable Energy Utility achieves clean energy access for 107 homeowners with VEIC

A VEIC Case Study

District of Columbia Sustainable Energy Utility exceeds Solar for All goal by 7 homes with VEIC

The District of Columbia Sustainable Energy Utility (DCSEU), run by VEIC, faced a challenge in filling its Solar for All program, which aimed to provide solar energy to income-qualified residents. Despite a goal of 100 participants, only 30 spots had been filled due to difficulties in reaching the narrow audience of eligible single-family homeowners and renters in a high-cost urban area.

VEIC developed a targeted marketing solution, using census data to identify eligible neighborhoods and conducting a campaign of direct mail followed by in-person canvassing. To build trust, they partnered with local Advisory Neighborhood Commissions. This strategy enabled VEIC to exceed its goal, providing solar energy systems to 107 homes and enabling each household to offset electricity costs by up to $500 annually.
