A VEIC Case Study
The District of Columbia Department of Energy & Environment (DOEE) faced the challenge of expanding solar energy access to 100,000 low- and moderate-income households by 2032 as part of its aggressive decarbonization goals. To achieve this, they needed a partner to overcome significant barriers and deliver affordable solar solutions. The DOEE selected VEIC, the implementer of the District of Columbia Sustainable Energy Utility (dcseu), to lead the Solar for All program.
VEIC designed and implemented the Solar for All program, which provided single-family rooftop systems and community solar installations to income-qualified households at no cost. Through this solution, VEIC delivered over 434 single-family systems and more than 180 community solar facilities, generating enough electricity to serve over 6,000 households. The program significantly reduced energy burdens for residents and was recognized with a U.S. Department of Energy Sunny Award for its success.
