A VEIC Case Study
The Connecticut Green Bank faced the challenge of high energy and transportation costs burdening low- and moderate-income households across the state. Without a clear understanding of what was driving these costs or which communities were most impacted, developing effective solutions was difficult. They partnered with VEIC to conduct an analysis of residential energy and transportation spending to identify the most cost-burdened communities.
VEIC's analysis revealed that transportation costs were a primary driver of the affordability gap statewide. Their research resulted in key findings that combined solar and deep energy retrofit programs could effectively close the building energy affordability gap. VEIC recommended expanding existing energy efficiency programs and promoting alternatives to personal vehicle use, such as public transit and electric bikes, to make a significant impact on household expenses for the most vulnerable residents.
