Building wealth and reducing energy burden in New Hampshire

The Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation sought to address high energy burdens and a strained economy in the rural North Country region, where low-income households struggled with energy costs and local resources for efficiency programs were limited. The foundation engaged VEIC to serve as the Energy Efficiency Value Chain Coordinator.

VEIC mapped the local energy efficiency landscape, identified systemic gaps, and implemented several key initiatives. These included launching an Energy Circuit Rider program to support municipalities, a campaign to increase demand for weatherization, targeted funding for local agencies, and workforce development efforts. The work aimed to reduce the area's significant energy burden, keep more energy spending within the local economy, and create jobs, thereby building community wealth.
