A Veeam Case Study
Zoos South Australia, a non-profit that runs Adelaide and Monarto zoos and cares for more than 2,300 animals, depends on admissions for core revenue and faces $12,000–$15,000 per hour in lost income if systems fail. Their legacy tape-based backup was slow, complex and unreliable—32 VMware VMs took three days to back up, verification was uncertain, and file-level recoveries could take hours—putting availability at risk during an IT overhaul.
With advice from Subnet, Zoos SA deployed Veeam Backup & Replication for daily onsite backups to IBM storage and continuous replication to a separate Cisco server via MPLS. Veeam’s faster backups, better compression/deduplication, Instant VM Recovery and granular restore tools reduced recovery times to minutes, enabled junior staff to perform restores, allowed longer on-site retention, supported a new admissions system and materially lowered downtime risk and DR costs.
