Voies Navigables de France boosts recoverability of data, cuts cost and enables cloud migration with Veeam

Voies Navigables de France (VNF), the national operator managing 6,700 km of French rivers and canals and supporting 4,500 users, faced rising costs, operational complexity and unreliable restores from a mix of backup tools across multiple sites. As it centralized infrastructure and planned Office 365 protection and a move to the cloud, VNF needed a single, reliable, automated backup platform to meet RPO/RTO targets and free IT staff to focus on business priorities.

VNF standardized on Veeam (Backup & Replication, Backup for Microsoft Office 365, Veeam ONE, Cloud Connect and Veeam Universal License) with AXIANS implementing the rollout. The platform now protects 230 VMs and 110 TB, delivering faster, more reliable backups, clearer licensing, reduced costs, easier GDPR compliance and a low‑risk path for migrating servers to the cloud while improving restore confidence and SLAs for internal users.
