A Veeam Case Study
The Development Bank of North Macedonia — the country’s only development bank — needed to ensure uninterrupted, electronic delivery of emergency, interest-free loans during COVID-19 after its legacy backup system proved slow, unreliable and unable to verify recoverability. With roughly 1,400 businesses to support and a 160% surge in direct clients, the bank required a compliant business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) solution that could scale quickly and guarantee availability.
The bank deployed Veeam Backup Essentials and a local cloud provider for Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS), becoming the first bank in North Macedonia to add DRaaS for business continuity. Veeam accelerated backup and recovery by 75%, supports the 3-2-1 rule (on-premises NAS, tape and off-site copies), and enabled Instant VM Recovery and item-level restores — helping the bank process €13.5M in loans and handle the spike in applications without interruption.
