A Veeam Case Study
PBS Engineering & Environmental, a Portland-based firm that stores digital copies of clients' official environmental records, needed a more reliable disaster recovery strategy after virtualizing its entire datacenter. When a contractor accidentally triggered the fire-suppression system, corrosive residue damaged multiple servers and network equipment — a real-world test of their backup approach that exposed the limitations of USB-based backups as VM counts grew.
Using Veeam Backup & Replication, PBS restored every virtual machine, file and item with no data loss by running VMs from compressed, deduplicated backups and restoring to replacement servers as needed. The company now replicates backups to a cloud gateway and a DR site, uses Veeam’s WAN acceleration to move large backup copies from remote offices, and achieves fast recoveries in minutes while meeting the 3-2-1 backup rule.
