Veeam protects data helping Arizona’s Medicaid agency provide healthcare to 2.3 million residents

The Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) is Arizona’s Medicaid agency, serving more than 2.3 million residents. To keep critical healthcare services running, AHCCCS needed scalable, reliable data protection that aligned with the state’s cloud‑first policy and supported migrations to Azure and Microsoft 365. Limited on‑prem backup capacity and a requirement for granular, fast recovery (SharePoint, OneDrive, Active Directory) made maintaining system continuity and controlling costs a major challenge.

AHCCCS deployed Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 to protect on‑premises systems, 50 Azure VMs and Microsoft 365 data — backing up roughly 100 TB across physical and virtual machines and 13 TB of SharePoint/OneDrive. The solution enables high‑speed, granular restores (including self‑service restores), supports cloud migrations, and has reduced operational and support costs while ensuring continual access to critical healthcare data.
