A Veeam Case Study
Hastings District Council, the local government authority serving about 75,000 residents in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, faced an aging, fragmented backup environment that was unreliable, labor‑intensive and unable to scale. With 550 staff across one main campus and 16 remote sites, the council relied on multiple backup products and manual processes to protect critical council and resident data (house plans, consents, licences and SQL databases), creating high operational costs and risk.
The council implemented Veeam Availability Suite Enterprise Plus, deployed by Datacom and using Veeam Cloud Connect (TIMG) for off‑site replication, to protect 129 VMs (28.5 TB). Backups shrank from more than 16 hours to under two hours (an 88% reduction), the number of backup tools fell from four to one, and about 12 TB of cloud capacity is used for replication—delivering 24/7 availability, faster recoveries, reduced admin overhead and a scalable platform for future growth.
