BankservAfrica, the largest automated clearing house and payment system operator in Africa, processes billions of transactions for 23 banks and 27 million customers and must ensure continuous availability of South Africa’s National Payment System. Facing legacy backup and recovery that was too slow to meet SLAs amid 30% annual data growth and rapidly increasing mobile banking traffic, the organisation needed a modernised, highly available backup and disaster‑recovery strategy to guarantee 24.7.365 data availability.

BankservAfrica deployed Veeam Backup & Replication across its modern data centres, backing up 350 VMware vSphere VMs (2.8 PB) to Dell EMC storage and replicating VMs between sites for DR. The solution made backups 60% faster and recoveries 98% faster, enabled automated recoverability testing, cut backup costs by 50% versus competitors, and helped the bank meet SLAs while supporting peak volumes (128 million transactions in December 2016).
