Case Study: City of Fremantle achieves data hyper-availability and reliable, faster backups with Veeam

A Veeam Case Study

Preview of the City of Fremantle Case Study

Veeam and NetApp transform Perth local government into a digital hub, enabling data hyper-availability at a critical time

The City of Fremantle, one of Western Australia’s oldest local governments, needed to digitize and make historic records accessible while meeting strict retention and compliance requirements. Its legacy backup solution was unreliable—overnight jobs often failed, slowing production systems and putting irreplaceable century‑old plans and deeds at risk.

By deploying Veeam Availability Suite integrated with NetApp FAS/AFF storage and ONTAP, and using Veeam ONE for monitoring, the council gained hourly incremental backups, full-system backups completed in three hours, and fast restores with no performance impact. The deployment ensured data hyper-availability, saved about a full day of man‑hours per month on backup maintenance, and freed IT staff to focus on strategic digital initiatives.
