Trustpower, a leading New Zealand electricity generator and ISP serving hundreds of thousands of customers, faced an unreliable backup environment built on HP tape and NAS with no regular restore testing. The old solution didn’t dedupe or integrate well with VMware, leaving the business exposed to downtime across its growing multi–data-center footprint and requiring a more cost-effective, VMware‑friendly backup target and responsive regional support.

Trustpower deployed Veeam Availability Suite with ExaGrid (alongside Pure Storage and HPE Nimble for primary storage), enabling nightly backups, ExaGrid’s landing‑zone deduplication and cross‑site replication, and fast VM restores. The combined solution halved backup windows, delivered replication to multiple sites for stronger data protection, improved restore speed and reliability, and provided local support—allowing Trustpower to confidently scale the approach across its network.
