Vancouver Canucks score a hospitality hat trick with Veeam for the Microsoft Cloud

The Aquilini Investment Group, owner of the Vancouver Canucks and Rogers Arena, needed to keep critical hospitality systems — ticket scanners, Wi‑Fi and point‑of‑sale — running for millions of fans across roughly 45 NHL games and dozens of concerts and events. Because an hour of POS downtime could cost the business more than $100,000, IT required faster, more reliable backup and recovery to protect services across its arenas, hotels, restaurants and other business units.

Aquilini replaced its legacy backup with Veeam Availability Suite and Microsoft Azure, backing up and replicating 60 VMware vSphere VMs (180 TB) between two data centers and offsite to Azure to satisfy the 3‑2‑1 rule. The setup enables direct restore to Azure, ensures business continuity for on‑premises and cloud workloads, optimizes the fan experience, and reduced administrative overhead by about 10–12 hours per week while eliminating costly downtime risk.
