A Veeam Case Study
The University of Florida’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, part of a large public university serving nearly 50,000 students, had fully virtualized its environment but was struggling to protect rapidly growing data (from 14 TB in 2010 to nearly 90 TB in 2014). The legacy tape-based backup tool was slow, unreliable, and unable to perform efficient incremental backups, leaving faculty and staff to keep 2 TB USB drives on their desks because they didn’t trust IT’s recovery capabilities.
The college implemented Veeam Backup & Replication to protect about 90 TB across 35 VMs, enabling fast incremental backups (a 10 TB server’s incremental now takes ~30 minutes versus a week) and some VMs to be backed up hourly. Veeam’s Instant VM/File-Level Recovery restored large servers in minutes (15–45 minutes in real incidents), delivering fast, frequent backups, high-speed recovery, always-on availability and renewed confidence for users and IT.
