A Veeam Case Study
The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) — a vast institution serving hundreds of thousands of students across 164 branch offices — faced growing pressure on its datacenter backup infrastructure. Legacy open‑source tools, snapshots and local SAN/NAS storage were capacity‑constrained, incompatible with multiple hypervisors, and produced long recovery times, leaving the IT team unable to meet required RTO/RPO objectives.
UNAM deployed Veeam Backup & Replication together with ExaGrid disk-based storage and offsite replication, leveraging ExaGrid’s Landing Zone and adaptive deduplication. The combined solution simplified management, expanded coverage to the entire university, increased effective capacity roughly tenfold, shortened backup windows to a few hours, tripled retention copies, and delivered fast, reliable restores (including a 250 TB restore in ten minutes), restoring confidence in DR readiness.
