A Veeam Case Study
The Texas Medical Association (TMA), a not‑for‑profit representing more than 50,000 physicians and employing nearly 200 people, faced slow backup and recovery for the VMs that run its email and CRM—systems critical to member communication and annual dues renewal (which comprised 63% of its $25M operating income). The NAS storage array hosting backups was a bottleneck, putting TMA and the 110 county medical societies it supports at financial and operational risk.
TMA replaced the NAS with a Cisco UCS S3260 and deployed Veeam Availability Suite as the backup repository in its SmartStack, backing up 50 VMware VMs (8.5 TB) and copying backups to iland’s cloud. The change freed $700,000 in TCO, cut RPOs from 15 to 4 hours and RTOs from 24 hours to 15 minutes, improved SLA compliance, strengthened DR via a 3‑2‑1 strategy, and freed staff time to focus on public‑health initiatives.
