SmartDraw, a software company that delivers visual communication tools and handles thousands of daily downloads and online transactions, had virtualized nearly its entire infrastructure (about 70 VMs) on VMware vSphere. Outsourced VM backups were slow, sometimes froze VMs, lacked reporting and monitoring, and made restores take hours or days—making management of the virtual environment time-consuming and risky.

SmartDraw brought backups in‑house and deployed the Veeam Management Suite (Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam ONE), enabling fast agentless backups, automatic recoverability verification, granular file/app-item restores, and VM replication to a DR site. The change saved about 40 hours per week, made backups and restores up to 10× faster, allowed seamless failover during a datacenter move, and provided proactive monitoring and capacity planning for complete visibility into the virtual environment.
