Slovak Railways keeps its data moving and always available by using Veeam-powered technologies

Railway Telecommunications, the largest IT and telecom unit of Slovak Railways (ŽSR), runs nationwide data centers and an optical network supporting critical systems (SAP, Oracle, MS SQL, Exchange) across two geographically separate sites. Facing storage incompatibilities, VM losses and a legacy backup solution that couldn’t meet strict RTO/RPO or the “Always‑On” requirements for rail services, the company needed a more reliable, easy‑to‑manage availability platform.

Railway Telecommunications implemented Veeam Availability Suite with HPE StoreOnce and HPE 3PAR 8200, protecting several hundred virtual servers across two sites in a three‑to‑four month rollout. The new solution cut VM backup time from ~20 minutes to ~3 minutes, delivered ~80% storage savings through deduplication, improved GDPR‑aligned security and resilience, lowered backup costs and freed staff to focus on service improvements.
