QBCC deploys Veeam for 24/7 availability in the cloud with lower costs and improved reliability

Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC), the Queensland government regulator for the building and construction industry with about 450 users across eight offices, faced an aging tape-based backup system that failed roughly 50% of the time. As a public body obligated under the Freedom of Information Act to reliably provide records 24/7, QBCC needed a scalable, sustainable solution and relief from rising maintenance and consumable costs.

Working with NetApp partner FLEXdata, QBCC deployed Veeam Availability Suite alongside its NetApp AltaVault storage; the project was completed in eight weeks with no downtime. The new cloud-based solution cut backup failures from 50% to 2%, reduced costs by about 80%, enabled essentially unlimited scalability, and freed IT staff from constant recovery work.
